cmotion cGate

Overview
The cmotion cGate lets you control cmotion lens motors over the network. To work with Cyanview, the cGate needs a Cyanview-compatible firmware (v2.0.0 or above).

Wiring

- Connect the cGate Ethernet to the same network as the RCP/RIO
- Motor wiring on the LBUS side of the cGate is the same as with the cForce
- Up to 3 motors can be connected to the cGate
- Power for the cGate and motors is provided through the LBUS
- Optional: add Blackmagic handles, so iris is controlled from the RCP and zoom/focus from the Blackmagic handles
Setup
- On an existing camera, scroll to the "Lens - External control override" section.
- In "Model", select "cmotion - cGate".
- Toggle Advanced Mode.
- In the "Advanced" field, enter the IP address of the cGate. The "Interface" field then updates to that IP address. Make sure the cGate's IP address is reachable from the RCP (see "LAN Configuration" in IP Configuration).
If everything is properly configured, the lens block turns green.

Here the camera head is "Not controlled", so only iris/zoom/focus are read/written. You can combine it with any camera control.
The default setup provides iris control with the following parameters:
- Iris values from 1.6 to 32
- Torque 2
- Motor direction left
All motors are automatically discovered. See "Advanced Setup" below to add other axes or change parameters.
Advanced Setup
According to the official site, the defaults are:
- Iris + zoom + focus are controlled
- Iris: 1.6 to 32, torque 2, direction left
- Zoom: torque 2, direction left
- Focus: torque 2, direction left
You can change the configuration, especially to adapt the iris range to your lens. In the lens setup's "Advanced" field, enter the zoom/iris/focus configuration separated by ,. Each block must be fully configured (range if applicable, function, torque, and direction). If you configure only the iris, the default focus and zoom are still applied. Use _ to leave a setting unchanged.
Formats:
| Axis | Format |
|---|---|
| Iris | IRIS_MIN:IRIS_MAX:iris:IRIS_TORQUE:IRIS_DIRECTION |
| Zoom | zoom:ZOOM_TORQUE:ZOOM_DIRECTION |
| Focus | focus:FOCUS_TORQUE:FOCUS_DIRECTION |
IRIS_MIN/IRIS_MAX: minimum/maximum iris value*_TORQUE: motor torque (1, 2, 3, or 4)*_DIRECTION: motor direction (leftorright)
Examples:
2:8:iris:2:left: iris from 2 to 8, torque 2, direction left2:32:iris:2:right: iris from 2 to 32, torque 2, direction right1.6:32:iris:_:left,zoom:4:_: iris from 1.6 to 32, direction left, torque unchanged. Zoom with torque 4, direction unchanged. No focus.1.6:32:iris:2:left,zoom:4:right,focus:2:left: iris and focus with torque 2 and direction left; zoom with torque 4 and direction right

If everything is properly configured and wired, the lens block appears green.
The configuration for an axis must be complete. Even if you only need to set the iris direction, you still have to set the torque. The only exception is the iris min and max, which can be set without torque and direction.
The motor direction is internal to the RCP; it does not change the direction setting of the motor itself. This lets you invert the direction even on a 3D rig with motors on each side. It is the controller direction, not the motor direction.
Calibration
You can run the motor calibration from the RCP: open MENU > LENS > LENS > ACTION and click "Calibrate".
Use a sufficiently powerful power supply, as calibrating all motors at the same time requires a lot of current.

cGate with RCP and Hand Unit
If the RCP and a cmotion Hand Unit both try to control the cGate, the RCP wins by default. To give control to the Hand Unit, release the cGate from the RCP for specific axes by toggling the switches in the Lens > Lens > Control menu.
Troubleshooting
Lens Is Green, but Nothing Happens
Possible causes:
- Motor not calibrated: check the motor's LED button; it should be green. If not, run a calibration by long-pressing the motor button or from the RCP (see Calibration).
- Wrong advanced setup: a syntax error in the motor parameters can cause problems. Follow the exact syntax described in Advanced Setup.
The Iris Value on the RCP Does Not Match the Lens
The RCP does not know the lens's iris range. Follow Advanced Setup to match the iris range to your lens.
