What is CyanView Studio?

CyanView Studio is a Cyanview desktop application that runs on a computer (macOS / Windows). Built for broadcast and cine-style live production, it combines two roles in one app:

  • Camera control: Brings every RCP and RIO on the network into a single screen (dashboard) where you can monitor and adjust camera values. Through RCP and RIO it supports more than 210 camera models.
  • Real-time color shading: Adjusts the color of the picture live, generates 3D LUTs (color lookup tables) in real time, and sends them to supported LUT boxes (color processors).

:::tip Terminology

  • Shading: In live production, the work of adjusting and matching the exposure and color of camera pictures.
  • 3D LUT: A lookup table that maps input colors to output colors. It is usually exchanged as a .cube file.
  • LUT box: A device that applies a 3D LUT to a video signal (such as SDI) in real time, for example Cyanview's VP4. :::

What you need to use it

CyanView Studio is software, so to operate cameras you use it together with Cyanview hardware.

What you want to doWhat you need
Monitor and control cameras (Dashboard edition)An RCP or RIO on the same network as the computer. The cameras themselves are connected and configured on the RCP / RIO (see Getting Started)
Live shading (Studio edition)In addition to the above, a LUT box that can receive 3D LUTs (AJA, VP4, BoxIO, or the CyanCamera app)
Use a smartphone as a cameraThe CyanCamera app

For the features in each edition, see "Editions" below.

Key features

Multi-camera control

  • Drive every RCP and RIO on the network from one desktop app and see all camera values on one dashboard.
  • Group cameras into scenes and lay out your own grids and quick-control panels.
  • Reach controls the RCP itself does not expose, such as CDL color wheels and macro pads.

LUT Fade

Switch looks on air without a visible jump. With LUT fade enabled, every new 3D LUT, grade, DCTL, IDT/ODT, or gallery pick is interpolated on the device across a set number of steps instead of cutting in. You can tune the steps and duration, and choose fade or straight cut per node type.

Color shading

Two grading models are available in one workspace.

ModelControlsCharacteristics
ASC-CDLSlope / Offset / PowerCommon in film and post-production
PrimariesBlack / Gamma / GainSimilar to broadcast camera shading

It also provides:

  • Multimatrix hue/saturation correction (32 sectors)
  • Six independent, hue-keyed color correctors
  • RGB curves
  • GPU-accelerated scopes (waveform, vectorscope, parade, histogram)

3D LUT generation

  • Generates 17³ to 65³ 3D LUTs in real time.
  • Build the processing chain in a visual node graph editor. Save frequently used nodes and groups to your library for reuse.
  • Export standard .cube files or stream directly to color correction hardware (the official page states it can push 3D LUTs to 30+ color boxes at 60 fps).

DCTL support

Imports DCTL (DaVinci Color Transform Language) scripts used in DaVinci Resolve and compiles them into standard 3D LUTs. The result can be used as a processing node in the node graph, previewed in real time, and exported as .cube or streamed directly to hardware.

NDI output and external scopes

Sends live changes out over NDI so you can monitor them anywhere on the network. NobeOmniScope or Hedge's ScopeBox can read the NDI feed to display scopes such as a waveform.

Live video processing (OpenFX host)

Runs OpenFX (OFX) plugin chains on live SDI video in real time on the GPU. Processing can run on the engine built into Studio, or you can scale out with FXVP nodes (headless processing nodes: dedicated Mac minis with SDI in/out that run without a monitor or keyboard). FXVP nodes boot straight into their last pipeline after a power cycle and are controlled from Studio over the network.

Editions

CyanView Studio comes in three editions. Each edition includes everything in the one before it.

EditionPositioningMain features
DashboardCamera controlConnect, monitor, and control multiple RCPs and RIOs; custom dashboards and control pages; camera groups; macros and macro pad; direct CyanView REMI connection (control RIOs and CyanCamera apps); internet gateway for RCPs (share your computer's connection with RCPs on a closed LAN)
StudioDashboard + shading & monitoringLive shading through LUT boxes (dynamic 3D LUTs pushed to AJA, VP4, BoxIO, and the CyanCamera app; openGear listed as coming soon); full shading toolset (Primaries, curves, color warper, printer lights, CDL); camera value snapshots (recall a setup at the next venue); 3D LUT import & export (17/33/65, .cube / .3dl); built-in scopes and NDI out; detachable scopes and fullscreen preview (for a second monitor); DeckLink capture & SDI output
LiveLabStudio + live video processing & post workflowDCTL support; reference charts and clip playback (for pre-show look building); DaVinci Resolve live LUT push & receive; OpenFX plugin host; live GPU effects processing; live plugin chains

FXVP headless nodes are an add-on to Studio or LiveLab, licensed per node. The processing engine built into the app on your own computer is included without the add-on.

note

Pricing and system requirements are not listed on the official page. Contact your reseller or Cyanview if you are considering a purchase.

Working with the CyanCamera app

With the smartphone app CyanCamera, an iPhone or Android phone becomes a numbered camera on your Cyanview gateway. From Studio you can:

  • Connect directly to CyanCamera over REMI from the Studio dashboard and control it alongside broadcast cameras
  • Push a live 3D LUT to the phone and grab frames for grading

How to get it

  • Download the macOS or Windows version from the official page, software.cyanview.com.
  • Request early access with "Get Early Access" on the official page.
