Key points: Blackmagic/Haivision backpack

Remote control of a wireless Blackmagic URSA G2 using equipment mounted in a backpack.

  • Setup: the camera's SDI output goes to the Haivision encoder. The RIO and RSBM (Blackmagic SDI interface) send control and tally to the camera's SDI input.
  • Why SDI: the URSA G2 can be controlled over IP with the latest camera update, but its IP protocol has no tally. If you need tally, SDI is the only option (which requires an RSBM). Over SDI, control is unidirectional, so a green status in the Web UI doesn't prove that control works. Always check from the RCP by changing tally or iris.
  • Blackmagic bus: if the camera ID is not the default 1 (ID 10 in this case), create a Blackmagic bus with an ID range that includes the camera ID (e.g. 1-12) before creating the camera.
  • REMI: once the same REMI tag is set on the RIO and the RCP, the RCP automatically discovers the RIO and its shared cameras, and you can import and control the camera. Here the link runs through the Haivision DataBridge, so video and telemetry stay together and no 4G modems or SIMs are needed.
  • Tally from an ATEM: add the ATEM in the RCP's Components section, set its IP address, link camera 1 to input 1, and set red/green tally to "AUTO". ATEM tally is then routed to the camera through the RIO.
